From the infrastructure of energy, water and transport to the buildings themselves, only engineering makes modern city life possible. We shape our environment around human needs and desires, so how should our cities continue to change? Or does trying to predict human aspirations only limit our visions of the future?

Introduction Engineering lets us do things faster, from travelling the world to texting a friend. Is there any limit to our pursuit of speed? Does the emergence of the 'Slow Movement' mean it’s time to put the brakes on and apply technology to different goals, like quality of life, safety and environmental responsibility?
